E-Summer Course Business Innovation and Management 2020

(Bogor, July 20, 2020) School of Business IPB University (SB-IPB) has held the opening of E-Summer Course Business Innovation and Management (BIM) 2020 which carries the topic “The New Dynamics of Business Innovation & Engineering: Creating and Protecting Value in the Era of Industry 4.0 & Society 5.0“. The opening presents the Rector of IPB University Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, SP, M.Si by giving a direct speech to all participants.

BIM is a cooperation program between IPB University, Indonesia; University of Northern Malaysia, Putra Business School, Malaysia; Hiroshima University, Japan; Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Poland; and Kirirom Institute of Technology, Cambodia. The BIM E-Summer Course will be held in a virtual concept on July 20 – 28, 2020. BIM’s E-Summer Course is the first event held as an initiation/first step of creating a global virtual platform and network to facilitate cross-border students with knowledge enrichment and explore international experiences from their homes. A total of 172 participants from 11 universities have enrolled in the program. School of Business IPB University (SB-IPB) welcomes students from other departments at IPB University, other universities in Indonesia and other state universities. Students participating in the program come from 14 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Cambodia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Somalia, and United Kingdom.

This series of BIM E-Summer Course programs is filled with a combination of teachers from IPB University Business School (Prof. Noer Azam Achsani, Dr. Idqan Fahmi, and Dr. Hartoyo) and international universities, i.e lecturers from The University of Northern Malaysia (Associate Prof. Farizal Rajemi and Dr. Emy Ezura), Putra Business School, Malaysia (Prof. Sazali Abdul Wahab and Dr. Ahmad Shaharuddin); Hiroshima University, Japan (Dr. Yusuke Hayashi); Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Poland (Dr. Rafal Balina); and Kirirom Institute of Technology, Cambodia (Dr. Masamu Kamaga). There are 10 lecturers teaching specific topics tailored to common themes in the online course series, such as business competitiveness, innovation, sustainability, and management. At the end of the session, the team of lecturers and participants can publish an international book chapter taken from various learnings during the summer course process.

E-Summer Course participants are divided into 30 groups of 5-6 people consisting of multistrates (Bachelor and Postgraduate). The time span that participants must provide is 8 hours per day to complete the entire program. The program consists of three main activities, namely Online Lectures (synchronous and/or asynchronous), Quiz/Self-Assessment, and Team Assignments. Participants must take part in online course/video lesson, assess their knowledge and understanding through quizzes, engage with other participants and collaborate on their innovation ideas by doing team work and participating in international competitions. Participants are encouraged to explore knowledge within a logical framework in order to understand well the topic.

This online-based summer course is designed with interactive lecture methods. One of the activity models that is part of the E-Summer Course that triggers interactive participants with Ecofunopoly, an educational game based on the environment by IPB University alumni. This BIM activity has a weight equivalent to 2 SKS and the score can be transfer. In addition to the e-summer course program, there is also an essay competition for participants who are included in the series of activities. The online lecture session will start on July 21-25 and will close on July 27 with the final exam in the form of Project Presentation which is part of the international competition. Summer course participants are automatically enrolled in international conferences organized by SB-IPB namely BIEC 2020 (Business Innovation and Engineering Conference) and 2nd ICRMIA 2020 (International Conference on Risk Management as Interdisciplinary Approach) as well as the opportunity to engage in international competitions.

BIM 2020 e-summer course is closed with the Business Innovation and Engineering Conference (BIEC). At the end of the activity was announced three best student e-summer courses, i.e Nguyen Hanh Nhung (Tokyo University of Agriculture), Diana Marina and Ardelia Nadhilah Rosyad (School of Business IPB University). All three are considered to have excellent skills in completing various quizzes, essays, assignments and are very active in the learning process. All three are proud to be part of the E-summer course and hope that these good activities can be implemented periodically because they are considered to provide a very interesting experience as well as providing the ability to identify and recognize business opportunities, integrate information, theory, and best practices into the analysis of business organizational problems. It also strengthens the competitiveness of existing business organizations in the face of global competition, working together as a team and developing international networks and communicating arguments effectively in verbal and written formats to many stakeholders.
