ABEATS 2025: Strengthening Global Collaboration for Sustainable Digital Technologies and AI

ABEATS 2025 – The 7th ASEAN Business, Engineering, and Technology Symposium was successfully held on 25–26 November 2025 at Satbayev University, Almaty, Kazakhstan. This year’s symposium adopted the theme “Digital Technologies and AI for Environmental and Social Sustainability”, emphasizing the strategic role of digital innovation and artificial intelligence in advancing both environmental and social well-being.

The event represented a strong collaborative effort among four leading universities from four countries: SB-IPB University (Indonesia), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom), and Satbayev University (Kazakhstan). These institutions reaffirmed their commitment to fostering cross-border knowledge exchange in the fields of business, engineering, and technology.

SB-IPB University was represented by four delegates who delivered their research presentations on-site: Dr. Siti Jahroh (Head of the Undergraduate Program), Dr. Nur Hasanah (Vice Head of the Master’s Program), and two doctoral candidates, Christian Kuswibowo (DMB22) and Yohanes Baptista Anton Dewantoro (DMB23). In addition to presenting their work, Dr. Siti Jahroh also served as Chair in one of the parallel sessions on the second day.

The first day of the symposium opened with keynote speeches by distinguished international experts. Dr. Junaid Syed, Co-founder and CTO of Kolojic Ltd., delivered an insightful presentation titled “Connecting the Unconnected: Smarter Design, Cleaner Power for a Sustainable & Inclusive Future.” This was followed by Ir. Prof. Edwin Chi-Yan Tso, Associate Dean and Associate Professor at the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, who presented “Smart Building Envelopes: Paving the Path to Carbon Neutrality.” The day also featured a series of academic workshops covering key topics such as publishing in reputable journals, writing for IEEE publications, and doctoral thesis development facilitated by scholars from the University of Glasgow.

On the second day, participants joined scientific presentations held across eight parallel sessions in the morning and afternoon. The sessions were organized around four key thematic areas:

  • Digital technologies for environmental and planetary health
  • AI-driven solutions for the circular economy and sustainable consumption
  • Digital inclusion and social equity through technology
  • Ethical and inclusive AI governance for sustainable development

The program continued with a lunch gathering, an excursion to the scenic Shymbulak Ski Resort, and concluded with a gala dinner marking the official closing of the symposium.

SB-IPB University also celebrated an exceptional achievement at this year’s symposium. Yohanes Baptista Anton Dewantoro (DMB23) was awarded Best Presenter, reaffirming the quality and excellence of research contributions from the SB-IPB delegation.

During the closing ceremony, it was officially announced that ABEATS 2026 will be hosted in Bogor, Indonesia, with SB-IPB University serving as the host institution. This marks an important milestone for SB-IPB in expanding its international academic network and fostering long-term collaborative research initiatives.

SB-IPB University looks forward to welcoming broader participation at next year’s symposium—from ABEATS co-founder universities, Indonesian institutions, ASEAN partners, and the wider global academic community.
