IPB Business School Successfully Organized Summer Course on Sustainable Business Development
(Bogor, August 12, 2024) – The 2024 Sustainable Business Development (SBD) Summer Course was conducted as the fourth SBD since its first in 2021. “Addressing Climate Change Challenges to Strengthen Food Security” was theme as the program’s ongoing commitment to tackling global issues. The primary objectives of this event were: 1) to increase the inbound of international students and academia to IPB, 2) to enhance the international reputation and network in the field of business and management, 3) to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration in a multicultural setting for IPB students and faculty members, 4) to promote IPB as a world-class university by showcasing the institution’s role in fostering innovation-based business and management practices, and 5) to promote the upcoming international class programs to be held at IPB Business School.
The SBD Summer Course took place from August 1 to 10, 2024, at the School of Business, IPB University Campus in Bogor. The program was conducted in a hybrid, combining in-class activities with field trips, while some international lecturers taught online. The course featured distinguished experts in the field of business and management, both from Indonesia and abroad, including: (1) Dr. Nur Fadiah (Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Malaysia), (2) Assoc. Prof. Salmi Mohd Isa (Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia), (3) Dr. Ramona Blanes (Adam Smith Business School, UK), (4) Dr. Thomas Slijper (Swedish University of Agriculture Science, Sweden), (5) Assoc. Prof. Nina N. Shimoguchi (Tokyo University of Agriculture, Japan), (6) Dr. Xudong Rao (Texas A&M, USA), (7) Dr. Jumpol Vorasayan (Kasetsart University, Thailand), (8) Prof. Oscar Rodil (University Santiago de Compostela, Spain), (9) Dr. Masamu Kamaga (Kirirom Institute of Technology, Cambodia), (10) Assoc. Prof. Siti Jahroh (SB-IPB University, Indonesia), (11) Dr. R. Dikky Indrawan (SB-IPB University, Indonesia), and (12) Dr. Zenal Asikin (SB-IPB University, Indonesia).
The event was officially opened by the Dean of School of Business, IPB University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Noer Azam Achsani, M.S. T heSBD was attended by 25 students from Indonesia and foreign countries. In addition to classroom learning, participants embarked on a field trip to Batik Bogor Tradisiku, a pioneer of the iconic Bogor batik. They also visited the Marine Sea Farming facility managed by the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL), IPB University, located in Perairan Semak Daun Kelurahan Pulau Panggang, Kabupaten Administrasi Kepulauan Seribu.
Sea Farming was an integrated marine fisheries development program initiated by PKSPL at IPB University, encompassing marine aquaculture, hatchery, restocking, marine conservation, capture fisheries, marine tourism, and community economic empowerment. During the visit, participants were guided by the Director of Sea Farming, M. Qustam Sahibuddin.
The SBD program concluded with group presentations of participants’ final projects, which were part of an International Competition. The judging panel consisted of three lecturers from different countries: Dr. Siti Jahroh from Indonesia, Dr. Ramona Blanes from Scotland (UK), and Dr. Salmi Mohd Isa from Malaysia. The closing ceremony featured a closing statement by one of the co-hosts, Dr. Ramona Blanes (Adam Smith Business School, UK), and awards were presented to the participants and lecturers involved.
