SB IPB Equips Students with First Aid Skills for Choking and Fainting Emergencies
Bogor, May 23, 2026. The School of Business IPB once again held a series of Life Ready programs under the Soft Skills Grant scheme through a training session titled First Aid: Choking and Fainting on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB at Ruang Merak, Building C, SB IPB. The activity was attended by 19 undergraduate students as part of efforts to strengthen their basic skills in responding to emergency situations in their surrounding environment.
The training featured dr. Agil Wahyu Wicaksono, M.Biomed, assisted by three students from the Faculty of Medicine IPB. The session covered initial response procedures for choking and fainting, two emergency conditions that commonly occur in daily activities but require quick and appropriate action to prevent more serious risks.
In his presentation, the speaker explained that choking can obstruct the airway and potentially disrupt oxygen supply to the body if not treated immediately. Meanwhile, fainting may indicate circulatory problems, fatigue, dehydration, or other medical factors that require proper initial care before medical assistance becomes available.
Participants were introduced to first aid procedures, starting from identifying the victim’s condition, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area, checking the victim’s response, and learning basic techniques for managing choking and providing initial assistance to a fainting victim. The material also emphasized the importance of calmness, communication, and quick decision-making in emergency situations.
As part of the applied learning process, the activity continued with hands-on practice using mannequins to simulate emergency response procedures. Through the simulation, participants practiced first aid techniques for choking victims, response checks for fainting victims, and the initial steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as basic life support when a victim shows signs of respiratory arrest or cardiac arrest due to airway obstruction. The practice was carried out in turns under the guidance of the speaker, allowing participants to understand the basic techniques in a more systematic and accurate manner.
The training was conducted interactively through discussions, demonstrations, and group practice, encouraging active student participation throughout the session. In addition to improving technical understanding, the training also served as a platform to strengthen awareness that proper initial response can have a significant impact on a victim’s safety before further medical treatment is provided.
Through the Life Ready program series, the School of Business IPB continues to support the holistic development of student competencies, not only in academic aspects but also in practical skills, social awareness, and preparedness to face various emergency situations on campus and in the wider community.
