SB IPB Strengthens Students’ Emergency Preparedness through Basic Life Saving Training

Bogor, 23 Mei 2026 — The School of Business IPB continued its Life Ready program series under the Soft Skills Grant scheme through an Emergency Training session titled Introduction to Basic Life Saving (BLS) for students. The activity was held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 13.00 to 14.30 WIB online via Zoom Meeting. A total of 29 undergraduate students participated in the session as part of efforts to strengthen safety literacy and emergency preparedness within the campus environment.

The training featured dr. M. Arief Kurniawan, Sp.An-TI, Subsp.T.I(K), FIP, who delivered material on the basic concepts of Basic Life Saving (BLS) for the general public, particularly students as potential first responders in their surrounding environment.

In his presentation, the speaker explained that Basic Life Saving refers to basic emergency assistance provided to victims experiencing respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, or decreased consciousness before receiving further medical treatment. Basic knowledge of BLS is considered important for students, as emergency situations can occur anytime and anywhere, both on campus and in daily activities.

Participants were introduced to the importance of rapid response in emergency situations through the concept of the golden minute, an early period that plays a crucial role in determining a victim’s chance of survival. The session also covered the recognition of cardiac arrest signs, assessment of the victim’s response, breathing evaluation, and the basic steps for activating emergency medical assistance.

The speaker also explained the fundamental principles of the Chain of Survival as a sequence of emergency response actions, including early detection of critical conditions, activation of the emergency response system, implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when available, and further treatment by medical personnel.

As part of a participatory learning approach, the activity also included an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session on various emergency scenarios that may occur in students’ surroundings. Through this session, participants were encouraged to understand how to make initial decisions properly, safely, and systematically when dealing with victims in emergency conditions.

This activity reflects the commitment of the School of Business IPB to supporting the holistic development of student competencies, not only in academic aspects but also in strengthening life skills, social awareness, and preparedness in facing emergency situations.

Through this training, students are expected to gain a basic understanding of Basic Life Saving, increase their awareness of the importance of initial emergency response, and be able to take an active role in creating a safer, more alert, and more responsive campus environment.
