SB IPB Students Strengthen Basic Life Support Skills through CPR Practice and AED Use
Bogor — The Basic Life Saving (BLS) training series under the School of Business, IPB University’s Life Ready program continued with a practical session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. WIB. The activity was attended by 21 undergraduate students as an implementation of the basic life support materials they had studied in the previous session.
The practice session was led by dr. Widya Eka Nugraha, M.Si.Med., assisted by a student from the Faculty of Medicine and Nutrition, IPB University, who served as an assistant instructor. Direct guidance provided participants with the opportunity to practice each stage of CPR using proper techniques and to receive feedback throughout the training process.
The practical materials focused on the application of Hands-Only CPR, Trained Rescuer CPR, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Through simulations using mannequins, participants practiced identifying cardiac arrest conditions, performing effective chest compressions, and operating an AED according to the appropriate procedures as part of basic life support.
In addition to technical skills, students were also introduced to the importance of assessing the situation before providing assistance, determining action priorities, and safely evacuating victims without endangering themselves or the victim. Decision-making was emphasized as one of the key competencies, enabling participants to respond to emergency situations quickly, accurately, and systematically.
Through a combination of demonstrations, hands-on practice, and case simulations, participants gained a more applied learning experience while strengthening their confidence in providing first aid to victims of cardiac arrest. This activity complemented the Basic Life Saving training series, which aims to equip students with essential lifesaving skills as part of efforts to build a culture of safety and preparedness within the campus environment and the wider community.
