SB IPB University Enhances Peer Counselor Competencies to Support Student Mental Health
Bogor, June 6, 2026 — The School of Business IPB University organized a Peer Counselor Training program entitled “Building Counselor Skills to Enhance Competencies in Counseling Services.” The initiative was part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to strengthen mental health support within the academic environment and foster a more caring, inclusive, and supportive campus community.
The training featured Dr. Ir. Melly Latifah, M.Si., who provided participants with insights into the fundamental principles of counseling, empathetic communication skills, mentoring techniques, and the strategic role of peer counselors in assisting students facing academic, social, and psychological challenges. Through interactive learning sessions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of peer support as an accessible and trusted resource within the university setting.
Peer counselors play a vital role in creating a safe space where students can share their experiences, receive support, and explore solutions to the challenges they encounter. Strengthening the competencies of peer counselors is therefore an important step toward developing more effective and sustainable support services for students.
Through this training program, the School of Business IPB University reaffirms its commitment to supporting student well-being in a holistic manner, not only through academic development but also through attention to mental health. By fostering a caring and responsive learning environment, SB IPB University continues to cultivate an academic community that is healthy, resilient, and empowered to thrive.
